The Possmann, family business based in Frankfurt – Germany, was founded in 1881 by Philip Possmann and now is in its 4th generation.

The first official mention of the company can be found in the records of Emperor Karl the Great (about 799 A.D.).

The basis of the company are high quality apples, grown naturally and are carefully chosen to ensure the best flavor of their final products.

The apples grow without treatment, no chemicals on the fields and hills of central Germany. They mature only exposed to the sun’s nature, rain and wind and are harvested by local farmers.

Over time, the basic process for making juices not changed. However, the latest technology allows Possmann produce with higher efficiency and with greater consistency their products, for example by the newest equipment, which press the apples more smoothly, and thus produces fresh juice and more aromatic.

After receiving the apples, the fruit is carefully inspected and weighed. Only the best apples enter the processing chain for a thorough washing before being sent to manufacturing.

From the mill, the fresh wort is pumped into one of three presses, the juice of apple from the presses is filtered and then pumped to a temporary storage tank, the controller determines the delivery to be filtered and producing juice.

Nothing is wasted. Indeed, the remaining pulp is a valuable by-product which is used by farmers for feeding sheep and cattle during winters.

German health authorities have a well-deserved reputation for creating and enforcing quality standards considered the strictest in the world. To meet this challenge, the Possmann has passed from generation to generation this commitment to quality, and as a result, is regularly recognized and rewarded for their products.

Learn more about Brazil Nut – Econut

The Chestnut-the-Brazil Econut, cultivated by Agricultural Aruanã S.A. on Farm Aruanã, located in Itacoatiara, AM, has purity and quality assurance from the tree to the final packaging, because it is harvested from trees planted with the best genotypes selected by EMBRAPA and the Agricultural Aruanã, organically grown for over 25 years, with no use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

The entire production chain is rigorous and technically controlled from harvest to final packaging, and the pure product exclusively come from own plantations of Farm Aruanã, with homogeneous and controlled nutritional values. The Itacoatiara region produces nuts with great content of selenium and excellent nutritional composition.

The post-harvest, to packing, is strictly controlled and performed at the Farm Aruanã. The packaging has been specially designed to ensure durability and maintaining the quality of ECONUT NUTS. The final product is pure, without any alteration of their natural qualities.

Econut  has the SisOrg seal of the Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) by certifying TECPAR “(Paraná Institute of Technology).

The ECONUT nuts produced in Aruanã Farm in the region of Itacoatiara, Amazonas, has a concentration of selenium just the consumption of nuts 1 per day to meet the needs of human health.

The researcher Barbara Rita Cardoso, USP, used the ECONUT nuts (www.econut.com.br) that were donated by Excelsa Institute, along with the elderly with Alzheimer’s and obtained results of improvement in verbal fluency and reasoning thanks to selenium.

Motivated by this research, Barbara Cardoso won the Young Scientist Prize in 2015 in the categories Master and Doctor.

Food is to nurture concept a bit out of fashion in today’s world, where “cool” is the consumption of ultra-processed industrial products, rapid, practical and full of empty calories.

In the old days, and that only once has some 50 years, food was a function of farmers who cared for the land, chose the best seeds and understand the right season to plant.

Today we live the immediacy, transgenic seeds are here to “facilitate” the life of the peasant. No matter how much pesticide is placed on the ground, the super transgenic plants are resistant to it. And do not forget the noble goal behind them: ending hunger in the world! It will be?

Funny that this was also the promise of pesticides there in the postwar gone, will see that this dynamic duo Pesticides/GM were to fulfill the promise of good food, cheap and filling!

Speaking of cost, this has become the criteria on the choice of how to feed the family. Supermarkets do amazing promotions and we rushed to take advantage of, so plenty more for that  ”cool” clothes or smatsphones.

And it gives you instant noodles, chocolates, snacks and a lot of food inventions. “Fastfood because I do not have time, because children like fastfood, fastfood because I can not cook, fastfood because it’s easier.

“Food industries invest heavily in advertising, prometendostatus, harmony, beauty and health.They put up our television idols testifying that their products are excellent, as if they had competence for this analysis.

Life…

Hmmm life is complicated. “I have high blood pressure problems, cholesterol and overweight. You should see the account of the pharmacy!

I know … I need to take better care of my nutrition, have bought some shakes and Monday beginning the diet. Fruits and vegetables? Ah there you go with your naturalists concepts, and so, I will need to go to the kitchen, no one deserves!

Along with this come the concepts of “one time does not hurt,” “I’ve always lived like this and did not die”, “poor child will get eager” and other pearls.Against all this, there are organic fought, “ugly, expensive and hard to find” in the minds of some.

Silly, trend, fad, the head of others. Essential for the preservation of life for an increasing number of people, thank God!

Preach a healthy seed, a well-tended soil without pesticides, a return to the fairs where the foods were collected a few hours ago, can be sold directly, certainly at a lower price.

Processed foods, yes, but by hand, without chemical additives, because the goal is not to stretch the life but preserve it.

Knowing the origin of the food, meet “the guy” who planted and his concern for sustainability, with water, with animals should not be an important purchasing criteria?

And when it comes to cooking, someone here has a childhood Comidinha that just remembering comes the smell and taste? And they realized that good feeling of care, affection comes along with that memory?

What is PPM? See what Aldo Baccarin says about it.

PPM (MILLION IN PIECES)

Every day, the analysis laboratories receiving chemical composition analysis requests food in general, to quantify the major ingredients such as moisture content (water), protein, sugars, fiber etc. Simply put, using robust methodologies of analysis is determined in percentage (%) or grams per 100 grams. Taking as an example the case of whole milk analysis is easy to understand and visualize the amounts of fat, protein, sugars and ashes. Practically, amid glass of milk (100g) we have 2 tablespoons containing fat, protein and sugars.
Example:
COMPOSITION FOR INTEGRAL MILK
ANALYSIS RESULT(g / 100g)
Water 87.8

Fat 3.5

Protein 3.2

Sugar (lactose) 4.8

Ashes 0.7

The thing begins to unravel a bit when trying to view the amount of vitamins in milk, which together are few milligrams (1 gram contains 1000 milligrams). In this case, we know only that they are very small amounts, we can not see, but the analytical equipment can detect and quantify.

Well, now let’s get down to business and we understand the concept of “ppm” (parts per million). Imagine taking a spoonful of sugar tea (± 1g) and dissolve in a large water tank of 1000 liters (remember that 1000 liters of water equals 1,000,000 1,000,000 milliliters or grams). This example lets say have 1 ppm sugar in the water box, ie a very small amount.

Now we use the concept of “ppm” in the specialty food world – those formulated with ingredients free from allergens (ex .: breads or pasta without gluten, no dairy, no soy, no eggs, etc.). These products require full attention and should be produced by those trained in special places using dedicated equipment to avoid contamination. The finished product and the ingredients used should be tested periodically to ensure the absence of allergens and according to the law. Any product in “non-compliance” with the labeling declarations if found in the market, need to be collected (withdrawn). The reason for this concern is that some people may experience very strong allergic reactions, even fatal, if they eat food products allergens that are sensitive.
Analytical methods in use today can safely detect some “ppm” in any food. In the case of gluten, 5 ppm (equivalent to 0.0005% or 0,0005g / 100g feed) are easily detected.

For all the above reasons, it is recommended that producers of specialty foods, free from allergens, constant vigilance to conform and not endanger the lives of its consumers.

FOOD LABELS WHICH MAY CAUSE FOOD ALLERGIES

The Resolution RDC nº 26 of July 2, 2015, published by ANVISA, regulates the requirements for mandatory labeling of the main foods that cause food allergies.
This law requires that foods containing ingredients, additives and supporting technology containing or derived from foods that can cause food allergies, inform such an occurrence on their labels as follows:

ALLERGY: CONTAINS ……
or
ALLERGY: CONTAINS DERIVATIVES …..
or
ALLERGY: CONTAINS …. AND DERIVATIVES, as appropriate.

In cases where it is not possible to guarantee the absence of cross contamination of food, ingredients, food additives or supporting technology for food allergens must indicate on the label the statement “ALLERGIC: May contain …….”

Below the list of top foods that can cause allergies:

Wheat, rye, barley, oats and their hybridized strains
Crustaceans
Eggs
Fish
Peanut
Soy
Milk from all kinds of mammals
Almond (Prunus dulcis, Prunus amygdalus .: sin, Amygdalus communis L.)
Hazelnuts (Corylus spp.)
Cashews (Anacardium occidentale)
Brazil nuts or Brazil nuts (Bertholletia excelsa)
Macadamia nuts (Macadamia spp.)
Walnut (Juglans spp.)
Pecan (Carya spp.)
Pistachios (Pistacia spp.)
Pinoli (Pinus spp.)
Chestnuts (Castanea spp.)
Natural latex

The above warnings on labels should be with the following characteristics:

- CAPS LOCK
- BOLD
- AT LEAST 2 mm AND NEVER THE LESS CHARACTERS USED FOR THE DECLARATION OF INGREDIENTS
- COLOUR CONTRASTING WITH LABEL BACKGROUND
- MUST BE AFTER OR BELOW THE LIST OF INGREDIENTS

So stay tuned to the labels!

The manufacturer will have until July 2, 2016 to regularize their labels.

It is important to remember, that this obligation does not apply in the following cases:
- Packaged foods that are prepared or fractionated in food services and traded on the property itself;
- Packaged foods at point of sale the consumer’s request; and
- Food sold without packaging.
